Cyber Monday vs Black Friday 2026: Which Is Cheaper?
Neither day is cheaper across the board. Black Friday, November 27, 2026, has historically been strongest for TVs, big-ticket electronics, game consoles, appliances and toys. Cyber Monday, November 30, 2026, tends to be better for clothing, shoes, beauty, household essentials, computers and online-only products and services. Most deals now run across the whole stretch from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, so the smarter move is to track the specific item and buy when its price hits the bottom of its range.
How the two days differ now
Black Friday started as an in-store event: doorbusters, limited quantities, lines outside before dawn. Cyber Monday was created in the mid-2000s as the online counterpart, aimed at people shopping from home or work after the holiday weekend.
That split has mostly dissolved. Retailers post their Black Friday deals online, often days before the Friday itself, and many stores run in-store promotions through Cyber Monday. Most major retailers now market the whole period as "Cyber Week" or a long Black Friday sale, and some run early deals for most of November.
What still differs is emphasis. Black Friday ads lead with big-ticket electronics and toys, because those draw the most traffic. Cyber Monday promotions lean more heavily on sitewide percentage-off sales from fashion, beauty and home brands, plus digital products and subscriptions.
Which day is cheaper, by category
Based on Adobe's retail analysis of recent holiday seasons, as reported in the press, and on typical retailer patterns:
Usually better on Black Friday (or Thanksgiving weekend):
- TVs, especially name-brand sets and last year's models
- Video game consoles and console bundles
- Large and small appliances
- Toys, which Adobe has identified as seeing some of their biggest discounts of the season around Black Friday
- Smart home devices from retailers that lead with them in their Black Friday ads
Usually better on Cyber Monday:
- Clothing, shoes and accessories, often through sitewide promo codes
- Beauty, grooming and personal care
- Household essentials and consumables
- Computers and laptops, which Adobe has flagged as strong on Cyber Monday
- Software, subscriptions, streaming plans, online courses and other digital products
- Travel, which has its own "Travel Tuesday" promotions on the day after Cyber Monday
Roughly the same on both days:
- Headphones and earbuds, including AirPods
- Retailer-owned devices like Amazon Echo, Fire TV and Kindle
- Most items in deals that run "Black Friday through Cyber Monday"
These patterns are tendencies, not rules. A specific laptop might be cheapest on Black Friday at one store and Cyber Monday at another. That's why tracking the item beats picking a day.
What "Cyber Week" means for your timing
Cyber Week usually refers to the run from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, sometimes extending a few days after. In 2026 that's Thursday, November 26 through Monday, November 30, with some retailers continuing into the following week.
A few timing patterns are useful to know:
- Early deals often match the final deals. Many retailers start their Black Friday pricing a week or more before Thanksgiving. If an item is at its low already, waiting for the official day may only add sellout risk.
- Doorbuster quantities are limited. The deepest Black Friday prices are often on small quantities. If you see one at a good price online, buying beats waiting.
- Cyber Monday "extensions" are common. Many retailers extend their Cyber Monday sales by a day or more, sometimes with the same prices.
- Prices can change during the day. Online retailers update prices and swap deals frequently during Cyber Week.
Online vs in-store
Buying online is usually the better default now, even on Black Friday. Most in-store doorbusters are also available online, prices are easier to compare, and you avoid the crowds. Online also makes it easier to check a price history before committing.
In-store still makes sense in a few cases: when you need the item immediately, when a store has a doorbuster that's in-store only, when you want to see a TV or appliance in person, or when you'd rather avoid shipping on bulky items. If you're in a store, check the online price on your phone before you buy. Walmart, for example, says it will match the Walmart.com price on identical items bought in its U.S. stores.
How to decide whether to buy on Black Friday or wait
Ask three questions about each item on your list.
Is today's price low for this item? This matters more than the day. If a product's price is at or near the bottom of its recent range, the remaining upside of waiting is small. If it's only modestly below its usual price, you may see better before or after the weekend. Our guide on how to tell if a deal is actually a deal shows how to read that.
Is the item likely to sell out? Popular toys, limited console bundles and doorbuster TVs can sell out. If an item is scarce and the price is fair, buy it.
Does the store adjust prices after purchase? If the retailer will refund the difference on its own price drops within a window, buying early carries less risk. Many stores don't, and some exclude holiday weekend prices from adjustments. Check the store's current policy before you assume.
A quick way to answer the first question is to scan or search the item in Priced. It shows the street price across sellers, the unit price, and where today's price sits against the product's own recent range, so you can tell a real low from a temporary reshuffle on Black Friday morning or Cyber Monday night.
Watch out for fake discounts on both days
Both days attract inflated "was" prices, limited-time countdown timers and lookalike product variants built for the sale. A "Cyber Monday exclusive" that's the same price as last Tuesday isn't a deal. Our guide to Black Friday fake discounts covers the most common tricks, and they apply equally to Cyber Monday.

After Cyber Monday
The deals don't end on November 30. Many prices stay low through early December, and the second Monday in December, often called Green Monday, brings another wave of online promotions as shipping deadlines approach. Our Christmas shopping timing guide covers what happens after Cyber Week.
Common questions
When is Cyber Monday 2026?
Cyber Monday 2026 is Monday, November 30, the Monday after Thanksgiving. Black Friday is Friday, November 27, and most retailers run deals across the whole weekend and often for days before and after.
Is Cyber Monday cheaper than Black Friday for electronics?
It depends on the type. TVs, consoles and appliances have tended to see their strongest deals around Black Friday, while laptops and computers have often done well on Cyber Monday. For any specific item, the price history matters more than the day.
Are Black Friday deals available online?
Yes. Most major retailers post their Black Friday deals online, often before the day itself. Some doorbusters are in-store only or have very limited online quantities, so check the ad details.
Should I wait for Cyber Monday if I see a good Black Friday deal?
If the price is at or near the lowest it's been recently and you need the item, buy it. Waiting only makes sense when the Black Friday price is a modest drop and the item isn't likely to sell out.
